The more that running a small home business becomes acceptable the more you will find everyone doing it. I am going to give you a few pointers here on what you need to do to get yourself a small basket making business running from your home.

In your initial research you will have to consider these following points.

1. Are you going to be manufacturing the baskets yourself or out sourcing the task?

2. Are you going to consider importing these products or using local crafters?

3. Are you going to do general baskets or target a niche, like garden baskets or baskets for the kitchen?

4. Do you mix colors and styles or stick to an exact style?

5. What about wholesaling to retail outlets?

6. Perhaps you could do training as an added income, and use it to build up your suppliers.

7. Flea markets, your own shop, shows, art and craft festivals or trade shows?

8. Do you build up a website from day one?

9. Showrooms at home or not? Having a constant stream of people can seriously stunt your ability to do anything else at all.

What I suggest you do is to do the initial planning with such meticulous care that you will never have any doubt as to the quality of the  final decisions you made.

Research every aspect of the business, all the financial implications. Cover every base and every option. BUT, do not use this research to procrastinate. Do it all in a few days. Keep at it , and do it all very fast. It is just legwork and some phone calls etc. do not be scared to ask people questions.

The second step is then to plan the steps you will need to take to get the entire project running. Plan it down to the last detail.
