Crafters Blogs

.

Crafters are among the most talented people in the world.

Crafters blogs are a phenomenon that needs a bit of looking into and a little dissection.

I am a crafter and very proud of it.

I love the energy that crafters exude and the love that they have for life. You will hardly ever find a crafter that is unhappy with their lives. They generally are too busy being creative and getting on with making things happen to have time for any unhappiness.

I have seen the most incredible use of people skills put to good use in marketing on the actual craft markets, and I think that one of the biggest problems that crafters face is too little time to do the things that actually help with marketing their business.

What I think happens is that they realize that something needs to be done about marketing – but lack the time and lack the experience to get things going in the marketing department.

What then happens is they copy the most effective methods that they see being done by the crafters around them.

It is very heartwarming to see that they place such total trust in their friends and colleagues.

However, I need to point out that this leaves some very bad habits that have become the “norm” amongst crafters online.

Crafter blogs are one of the problems that i need to discuss with you here.

Crafter training course

I would like to add a PS here, and that is offline at the big craft shows and craft markets there are also some bad habits being passed around and I wrote a training manual on how to trade and make more money from your crafts at the markets. That is a subject for another page, BUT one thing that I can point out that is one of those mistakes is the tendency to remain “small” on the shows. Whenever I have seen a trader take along 10 x the normal stock that they normally carry, and then set up a stall that is literally 4 x at least in size – Those are the traders that make 3 to 4 times the money from that market.

From the same crowd. I promise you that this is true, I have proven it myself a few times too.

Often a crafter uses the excuse that they are “only one person” or ‘only my husband and myself” as a reason to schlep so little stock along. Yes I know that you are also going to tell me that it takes time to make the products too, and that is another reas9on why you can only take a little stock to the shows.

I see all those excuses as simple reasons to say the same thing as I AM NOT SERIOUS ABOUT MAKING MONEY FROM MY CRAFT SKILLS

I hope that is not true in your case.

OK, Back to the crafters blogs that I was originally talking about.

Let me run through the common steps that a crafter normally does when they arrive online.

The most common Crafter blogs starting place

It is the easiest thing in the world to get a free blog, and naturlayy Blogger is the biggest. I also need to tell you here that blogger has a massive and thriving blogging community, and while this is a fantastic thing, it will not really help you to get business.

The problem with blogger blogs are that they are very often not optimized well, they are only really supported by the crafting community that refer each other to “other cool blogs”. This builds a false sense of traffic to these websites/Blogs and inspires the newcomers on blogger to follow the same path – that is to also strive to achieve a blog with a big following.

It is possible to jump from a blogger bog (or is that crafters blogs) craft site to another for days without needing to leave blogger at all. If you are looking to get affirmation from other bloggers then this is a great way to build up a support group.

Why Blogger Blogs (or any other free crafters blogs) are bad for you

  • You do not own the blog – and can have it removed anytime
  • You do not have a domain name that will rank well in the SERPS
  • You do not have complete control over your SEO
  • You have a lot less flexibility on your website (er, blog)
  • More reasons like credibility etc

Why free blogs and blogger blogs are good

  • They do a fantastic job of referring business to your main website
  • You can optimize for different keywords on different blogs
  • You can build up the same “fans” within blogger – but still have real website

So finally what do I really suggest you do?

Quite simply – if you are serious about your crafting business needing to be a money making website – thn you have no choice at all but to do a proper website that is correctly done to all the rules needed to get a massive potential amount of business for your craft business.

Steps to switch your blog to a profitable web based business.

  1. Correct keyword research to choose your domain name
  2. Hosting
  3. Setting up a word-press website
  4. More keyword research to get you page titles and post titles
  5. Social activity
  6. Back-linking
  7. I presume that you did actually add your products. LOL
