When you’re planning the next craft session, of course you want it to be the best time for yourself and family, and having all the necessary equipment ready will contribute to your success. Granted, there are practical limits to how far you can prepare. So when all involved have what they need for your project; for example, the lefty’s will need left-handed scissors, is there anything else to help make it a smashing success? In this article we will talk about steps that you can take to make craft time more enjoyable for everyone in the family.
Where ever you’ll be crafting, you need to take measures to avoid any damage. We’re just talking about taking care of a table, chairs, and the floor in your work area. This will help you save time with clean up later on. Sometimes stuff happens, like a crayon or someone’s left-handed scissors become lost because they dropped it and it got kicked under some furniture. It will be a lot easier to keep track of where everything is and your kids will learn to be careful, as well. Just imagine that when you’re all done everything is right there, and you can scoop it up and throw it away. Avoid, if possible, working on your crafts in a confined area. More space to move around in. Think about left-handed children; if they are doing crafts with right-handed kids, then they could be banging elbows with each other. Also having more room allows everyone to be organized and keep their own art supplies nicely laid out. Crafting is supposed to be fun and relaxing, and if people are feeling cramped by others then you could see some tempers flare. More space lets people feel calm, and there will be a reduced chance of anything getting spilled, etc.
Be mindful about your children’s clothes. You know the deal – any old T-shirts or regular shirts will work fine. Most kids have old clothes that are not still in use but can be worn indoors. For older kids, aprons are a good idea. You can get cheap aprons at craft stores and allow the kids to decorate them with puffy paints and cloth markers. Obviously wearing old clothes can possibly save you major headaches with ruined clothing and laundry. You also won’t have to worry about someone’s left handed scissors accidentally cutting into someone’s sleeve if it is covered with something else.
You can minimize your crafting stress and make it more fun it shouldn’t be a huge hassle. In this article we have talked about a few of the ways that you can calm down and keep craft time a fun time for everyone. The number one rule in doing crafts with kids is to stay calm.
This means you need to be prepared ahead of time including left handed scissors and stay patient. Finally, don’t forget to have fun!
